Whatever this...thing...is,it's encountered by our heroes in the Void Passage.It resembles a screen of some sort,displaying the image of a forlorn young girl, and bits of it seem to phase in and out of reality at random. It could just be another bizarre,aggressive monster found in the passage,considering how it shoots lightning at everyone it meets,but it almost seems to be actively seeking out our heroes.What could it possibly want them for?

Gensokyo was not the first universe Cathu had opened the Passage into.Many decades ago,and yet not long ago at all,Hasuta had gotten perhaps too bold, creating the entrance in the middle of a village.After all, the closer the portal was to civilization,the easier it was to spread the Old Ones' influence,right? Wrong. It turns out that it also meant the citizens had easier access to their superior weaponry and supplies,and they were fairly quick to force the invaders out. This was not without consequence or casualty, however.The invading beasts gave as good as they got, and many people perished protecting their home.But one soul in particular was especially unlucky,being knocked into the Passage herself. Hayako met her end in the Void Passage,mauled by one of Hasuta's creations.But with no access to her universe's afterlife,her spirit lingered.She spent decades with nothing to do but gaze into the abyss,and you know what they say happens when you do that for too long.... Hayako learned the secret truth behind her world.The sprite work,the background music,the coding...her entire life was fake,down to the last pixel.She snapped,and became one of the monsters herself -- desperate for something or someone to put her out of her misery.She encountered Reimu and co, drawn by their“protagonist energy”.while they were traversing the Void Passage. At the end of her rope,she used what power she had to keep the Void Passage open,allowing more creatures to spill into Gensokyo -- a “suicide by shrine maiden” ploy.It failed,as she was unaware that spell card duels are non-lethal by nature.
