Backstory ==================================================================== ---The Hakurei Shrine, in the chill of autumn. The Shrine Maiden is sitting on the shrine front, watching the evening sky as it bursts into many beautiful colors. While this scene seems to be a Romantic poet’s dream, this scenario spells disaster for her. Reimu: “The sky has been looking weird for the past few days. I've got a bad feeling about this. Has there been anything unusual going on?” Behind her, there stood a tengu reporter, Aya Shameimaru. Aya: “The sky has been overflowing with large amounts of magical power. Seems like it affects all of Gensokyo at the moment. Tengu patrols have been investigating it for a while; we got nothing, though. What do you think about this?" Reimu: “I don't know. I hope it's just a natural occurrence, and I hope it ends soon. Things have been getting stranger by the hour.” Aya jots some things down on a notepad. Aya: “Oh, right! Ms. Reimu, there has been a report about a recent attack on the Human Village last night. Our tengu patrol said there was a strange light, like some kind of overwhelming danmaku battle, but it caused physical damage to buildings and property; luckily, nobody got hurt. We tried to fight back, but the thing - whatever it is - is too strong! It managed to knock everyone out and escape." Reimu turns back to Aya. Reimu: “Why didn't you tell me this earlier? This sounds very fishy to me. All of these things happening at once couldn’t be a coincidence. I have to do something.” Reimu knows the drill - very well. Something unusual happens; and then there are either visitors (whether they present themselves as such or not) or local residents who become strong enough to cause trouble. Although, “unusual” has been becoming a less effective word to use in these incidents, as they are called, since they’ve been occurring much more frequently; it’s difficult to tell what’s “usual” around here anymore. Flying into the scene comes Marisa - a totally normal magician. Ever since the unusual light shows have started occurring - rainbows, auroras, phenomena that probably haven’t been named yet - she’s been “researching” them. Aya, not wanting to bother the Shrine Maiden from her work any longer, flies off to find another witness to interview. Marisa: “Hey, Reimu, are you seein’ this? There’s crazy stuff happening everywhere! I think my magic’s goin’ out of control a bit too-” Reimu: “Good, you’re just who I wanted to see.” Marisa: “Huh? Don’t tell me we’re goin’ crazy-people-shooting again already. Didn’t we just give that door person the boot?” Reimu: “Don’t you think I would like a break, too? Come on, let’s get this over with already.” And the two of them are off, each going their own way, leaving the shrine grounds empty. Due to the new barrier’s influence on magic power, the forest simply radiates with it. Night is approaching fast, and even so, the strange light persists. -- However, in these dark hours, many monsters and youkai awaken. With this new barrier in effect, Gensokyo is in complete danger; the enhanced magic power has turned the land of fantasy into a designated battleground. Somewhere, unknown to the heroines. "She" is standing there, gazing at the majestic view of Gensokyo's sunset. In her hand, there lies a silver key. She exhales deeply, waves the key, and the portal closes shut. Character Profiles ==================================================================== -------------------------------------------------------------------- Player Characters -------------------------------------------------------------------- -Player 1 Shrine Maiden of the Blazing Sun 博麗　霊夢 Reimu Hakurei The now familiar shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine. Ever since the four seasons incident, she has been kind of paranoid about any small changes for a while. However, as usual, she had just completely forgotten about it not too long after and let her guard down. She saw a light beam coming from the ground one autumn evening, but she had just shrugged it off as if it was nothing. It was until that the sky started becoming strange and more mysterious incidents occurred that she put two and two together. It didn't take her long after that before she went out in hope that it is not too late yet. After all, she is Gensokyo's Incident Resolver specialist. -Player 2 (Coming soon in future patch) Magician of the Serene Moon 霧雨　魔理沙 Marisa Kirisame An ordinary magician living in Gensokyo. She also has a mania for collecting things. Lately she has noticed that her power has been acting strange. She can occasionally light things on fire with just a tiny spark from her mini-Hakkero. At first she thought that it was a side effect from the Tsukumogami incident few years back, but the same things also happened with her other magics. Not only that, but even a simple danmaku bullet was capable of inflicting physical damage upon her belongings.She knew something was up,and at the same time, the sky was also filled with unusual lights. This made her curious. So she decided to go on an investigation in hopes of finding what happened in Gensokyo. After all, her combat style is all about power; with this huge magical boost, it shouldn't be too hard. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Enemy Characters -------------------------------------------------------------------- -Stage 1 Midboss, Recurring Spirit of Forgotten Past カズエ Kazue Species: Vengeful Spirit Ability: Capable of manipulating curse A random spirit that suddenly gained a lot of power and went on a rampage. It is very rare to see a Vengeful Spirit taking a physical form. Perhaps the recent magic power boost also contributed to the cause, or could there be something more to it? Nevertheless, she can't seem to remember her past at all and just wanders aimlessly. -Stage 1 Boss, Heron Fire Illusionist 鷺ヶ森 蒼海 Aimi Sagigamori Species: Aosagibi Ability: Capable of manipulating fireballs Previously one of the wild herons that lived on Youkai Mountain. Once old enough, she got turned into a Youkai. Normally, she just doesn't interact with humans at all and usually stays with her bird friends on the mountain. Until recently, she discovered "Magic Shows" through a knowledge network that the Kappas develop, which is said to be connected to an outside world knowledge base. She was really interested in it and started practicing it regularly. Recently, she's been feeling like she has more magic power than usual, so she tried various harder techniques while also asking her friends to help her out with her show. She thought it was finally time for her to show off her skills, so she went on a journey to the human villiage to make her debut show. Her friends are just regular birds, by the way. The one she is carrying is one of her best friends, "Tokkii". -Stage 2 Midboss, Lunar Capital's Lost Princess 綿月 伍姫 Watatsuki no Itsuhime Species: Lunarian Ability: Capable of manipulating astral bodies The youngest princess of the moon who was kept in secret for her own safety. She had been dispatched to Earth since Lunar Capital Incident to be the last resort in case Sagume's Plan failed. Luckily, Junko had given up her plan to revenge for time being, and the Capital is safe. So she doesn't have to crash the Moon onto Earth yet. Ever since the incident, she is staying on Earth as a spy with the Moon Rabbits at the base near Wind God Lake. She continuously sent back information she observes to her sisters using a Lunarian communication channel. The base itself has a technology for cleansing any impurity of the Earth, so there is no worry of staying here for too long. This time, she noticed a strange change in the sky from the probe that Moon Rabbits had installed over the lake. And the Lunarian communication channel also seems to get interference to the point of unusability with a strange signal. She is worried that something strange is happening. So she, along with other Moon Rabbits, went out to investigate. -Stage 2 Boss #1, The Human Magician Not-to-Be-Named テオーネ＝フィリップス Theone Phillips Species: Human Ability: Capable of summoning otherworldly creatures Capable of channeling otherworldly creatures' power through a weapon. She's a first-year student at the infamous overseas Miskatonic University from the outside world. On the outside, she seems to be just a standard schoolgirl with nothing special. However, she is also a pulp writer of weird fiction and is very obsessive over occult stuff in general. She possess one of the forbidden tomes known as "De Vermis Mysteriis". This tome grants her the ability to summon otherworldly creatures, as well as other enchantments. She's decided to tweak it a bit and has made a set of Wispo- I mean, spiritual weapons designed to amplify her power even more. So far, she seems to have mastered a few of them, but there are some that she doesn't fully understand yet, such as the blue color that seems to only produce cubes, or the magenta one that does nothing but play music. As she is very interested in strange phenomena, she gathers data on her own and predicts where it will occur so she can visit and witness it herself and later write down her own experiences in a book. This time it's very strange, however, as it seems to appear in some kind of sealed-off area in Japan. She can't help but wonder, but she's still decided to go along with it. The boundary around it is nothing to her anyways, as she can easily manipulate it with her own forbidden magic. -Stage 2 Boss #2, Mercenary from the Stars ヱギヰヨン・ギフテンツァー Aiguillon Gifttaenzer Species: Shikigami (Unknown) Ability: Capable of causing delusions with poison. She's a youkai who can be summoned using a certain passage from the forbidden tome, "De Vermis Mysteriis". It is actually unknown what her host species is, as it does not seem to resemble anything from this world. She has been called by many names: "Shambler from the Stars", "Star Vampire", "Star-sent Servant", "UB Stinger", and so on. Some names even date back to when she was still serving a certain great wizard. Back then, there was a major religious war, as well as many witch trials. She acted as his personal mercenary and guard, slaying ("deleting") many people without any difficulty by using her poison-concentrated cubes. This went very well until her owner was burned at the stake during one of the witch trials. He passed his knowledge onto a grimoire, which also contains the spell that summons her. Ever since then, many have tried to summon her through the grimoire, but she only worked with people that deserve it. Those she deemed unworthy have been killed on the spot. Theone is special, however; despite the fact that her bloodline is not shared with any wizard, her bloodline is still "the one that inherits the knowledge of the cosmos". This is why she has no problem working for Theone. Right now, she is regularly summoned by Theone for only doing housework and stuff. It's less exciting than slaying people in wars, but she is not complaining. The time has passed, and the war is over. The magic world is at peace now. There is no need for her to slay people anymore.
