Gensokyo: the land of fantasy where things go when people stop believing in them. In late autumn, a gentle sense that something was off gradually emerged in powerful spell card users, like the shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei, the magician Marisa Kirisame, and the youkai of boundaries Yukari Yakumo. But they didn't feel any compulsion to investigate. What exactly was off? Nothing they could name on command. At least for Reimu, there was no visible reason to worry. The Hakurei Shrine was having yet another profitable day, with worshipers and donations arriving at a steady pace. Observing this, Yukari finally realized what was wrong. Heading down to the shrine, she asked Reimu "Doesn't your shrine hardly ever get visitors or donations?" "Yes, but..." The correct answer having effortlessly come out, Reimu stopped her sentence dead in its tracks. "Then why are so many here?" Examining her memory further, she realized she hadn't even taken note of the Hakurei Shrine going from desolate to overflowing, and couldn't remember when that had happened. "Wait, what? What's going on?!" "Since when did these purple trees have diamonds growing on them?" asked Marisa. "Since when was the path from the Human Village to the Hakurei Shrine this short?" asked the moon rabbit Reisen Udongein Inaba. "Since when were people displaying such strong kinship and empathy?" asked the satori Koishi Komeiji. "Since when did the library have these reflective beams built into it?" asked the young bibliophile Kosuzu Motoori. It was as if all of Genokyo had fallen asleep and woken up in an alternate reality—a world of dream logic. The mind always wants to believe what it's seeing is real. In a dream, it will rationalize even the most absurd circumstances, so that one will almost never realize they're dreaming. By recognizing points of contradiction where their reality didn't make sense, the denizens of Gensokyo were able to discover they'd been living in a dream-logical world for some unknown but significant length of time. No one could be sure that anything about reality was the way it had always been. What aspects of their existence were "real", and what had recently been altered? Calling memories to the surface, themselves distorted by dream logic, was the only way to piece it together. Power item Collect these to increase your shot power. Small ones grant 0.05 power, large ones grant 1.00. Point item The main source of points. Worth more the higher onscreen you collect them. 1-up Collect to gain an extra life. *You can auto-collect all items by moving your character to near the top of the screen. Green/purple point value item These increase the maximum value of point items. They'll appear when enemy bullets are erased and at the end of Aspect Shifts, and are collected automatically. This time around, the girls have taken advantage of the fluctuating nature of reality and crafted special spell cards called "Aspect Shifts". Using an Aspect Shift (by pressing the SPECIAL key) costs 1.00 power. It erases all bullets on the screen, causes all items to be collected, and produces a reality-warping effect that will turn the tide of the game in your favor. All 12 characters have a unique Aspect Shift with a specific effect. An Aspect Shift will last a few seconds by default, but—this is important—grazing and collecting items during one will extend its duration. In addition to 1-up items, you'll earn extra lives in this game by scoring enough points. As the point item value (PIV) increases, the value of other score bonuses increases along with it. Thus, to earn enough lives to survive to the end of the game, it's important to raise the PIV as high as you can. Grazing increases it slightly, and erasing enemy bullets adds a moderate amount. To really make it shoot to the sky, though, you'll need to use ASes and keep them active as long as possible by grazing and collecting items. *Here are some tips for expanding your reality-bending prowess: ·When bullets are aimed directly at your character, you can make small movements to the side to graze them as they fly past you. ·When a large number of enemies are onscreen, you can shoot them down and then quickly use an AS. You'll auto-collect their items and get a head start. ·If you're really feeling like a daredevil, remember that you have a short period (2.5 seconds) of invincibility at the start of an AS. Find an enemy that's shooting tons of bullets, activate the AS, sit on top of the enemy and graze all those bullets, then get out of there before time's up! ·Don't forget the ASes' individual effects. Some aid short-term survival and making it past specific areas you have trouble with, while others benefit long-item PIV gain and better used in safer areas where you're confident you can keep them active a long time. 9. Using Aspect Shift to Win (Part 2) | 9. 充分利用相位转换是胜利关键(下篇) |
Here's how to make the most of the PIV you earn: ·Point items are worth more the higher onscreen they're collected, but are always worth their maximum value (the number shown by the Value indicator) if auto-collected or obtained during an AS. ·In addition to the PIV bonus, a standard score bonus will are awarded at the end of an AS. This bonus increases proportionally with PIV—the PIV begins at 10,000 and if you increase it to 20,000 the AS bonus will be doubled, at 30,000 it'll be tripled, and so on. ·Spell card bonuses are awarded if you shoot down an enemy spell card within the time limit without being hit or activating an AS (only the initial activation will cause you to lose the bonus; you can still earn it if an AS is already active when the spell card begins). This is called "capturing" the spell card. The bonus will be higher the faster you shoot down the card, and its value increases with the PIV just like AS bonuses. These are worth a lot, so study the enemies' cards carefully to learn how to capture them. When you raise the PIV to certain values like 20,000 and 30,000, you'll see a small indicator reading 点x2, 点x3, and so on.
